On 25 April 2026, the Onah Adeyi International Disability Centre (OAIDC) carried out a one-day medical outreach for persons with albinism in Makurdi, Benue State, in collaboration with Dr. Terver Zua Tule, Medical Director of Pewaren Clinic. The intervention directly responded to the critical health needs of a group often excluded from mainstream healthcare.
Over 60 persons with albinism from across Benue received free dermatological consultation and medication for skin conditions linked to sun exposure. Many were also screened for early signs of skin cancer and counseled on preventive care, including proper use of sunscreen, protective clothing, and regular skin checks. For participants who cannot afford routine clinical visits, the outreach was life-saving. Beyond treatment, the event provided health education tailored to the realities of persons with albinism living under intense sun and persistent stigma.
Led by OAIDC CEO Adeyi Onah Daniel, who is also Chairman of JONAPWD Benue State Chapter and General Secretary of the Albinism Association of Nigeria, the outreach reflects a model of community-driven healthcare.
Dr. Tule’s partnership ensured professional medical oversight and access to quality medication at Pewaren Clinic.
The outreach underscores a simple truth: inclusion saves lives. When disability-led organizations and health providers collaborate, barriers fall. OAIDC’s action on 25 April is a practical step toward the right to health for all in Benue State.
