Persons with disability oftentimes experience social exclusion and stigmatization in every area of their lives, consequently they are discriminated against, stereotyped, isolated, abandoned and in some cases experience violence. The people with disability live their lives in a miserable condition. Unfortunately Nigeria government initiatives for the disabled peoples are hardly available while NGOs and Civil Societies do not have adequate programs for them. Considering the situation, Onah Adeyi International Disability Centre (OAIDC) has undertaken an initiative to promote the livelihood, their rights, easy living and economic self-sufficiency of the people with disability.
Our Focus
Our focus is to provide educational and psychosocial support services, as well as social behavioural change communication activities to deal with and heal the trauma orchestrated by community stigmatization and discrimination (bias as a result of status), as well as non-social inclusion which has further increased vulnerability of the disabled persons.
Other areas of our intervention include Health promotion and services, and human rights (equity, fairness and justice) to eliminate barriers in healthcare access, workplaces and in every sphere of life.
